Deal or no Deal (the parable of the talents)
Since God’s the one who made you and gave you what you have,
go to Him to find out how to make the most of your mind, strength, talents, and
the stuff you own. It’s up to
you to try and not let any of it go to waste.
Matthew 25:14-30

Lingo (words matter)
Tell kids
that it’s important to not just choose the right words to say
to other people, but also to choose the right words to say to God. God
likes for us to say things to Him that honor and compliment Him. It’s okay to
talk to God about it when things are going great. But if all we do is complain
to God or ask Him for things, that’s not being responsible with out words. Ask
kids to think of things they can say to God to praise Him, like, “You are a
great God!” or “Thanks for being our Friend!”

Who wants to be a Good Samaritan? (the parable of the good Samaritan)
Jesus wasn’t just
sharing an entertaining story when He talked about the Good Samaritan. He was
challenging people to be responsible in big ways as well as in everyday life. Jesus
is challenging you today, too. He wants you to do the hard and unexpected
things like going out of your way to help someone, even those you don’t like or
know. He wants you to do what HE would do. Jesus went out of His way to get
to you. He left heaven to die on a cross for your sin. Imagine the mess you and
I would be in if Jesus hadn’t come to help us. We’d be separated from God
forever. Jesus is your example.

The Love Connection (the greatest commandment)
The
Ten Commandments are rules God wants everyone to follow. But don’t get stressed
out over it. If 10 things are too much for you to remember, think about how
Jesus sums up what we should do: Love God. Love others. And if that’s STILL too much to handle, just remember to
love God. Here’s why: If you get your
relationship right with God, the rest will follow. You see, responsibility isn’t just about obeying a list of rules.
It’s all about relationships—first with God, then with others.
