Where have you seen God in your life recently? How have you seen him move? Share with your group.
Read 1 Kings 19:1-18.
What did you learn about Elijah from this message? What did you learn about God from this message? How did this sermon deepen your faith? How did this sermon challenge you?
When the queen threatened Elijah’s life, he ran in fear. How do you think the Elijah of chapter 18 turned into the Elijah of chapter 19? What do you think you would have done in his situation? Why?
Dan said, “We would be wise to never underestimate the debilitating weight of discouragement, and discouragement’s ability, over time, to erode the infrastructure of our resolve.” How have you seen the impact of discouragement in your life? How did it affect Elijah’s life?
What are other subtle ways in which the enemy trys to draw us away from the Lord? How have you experienced these in your own life?
Dan also said, “In whatever season of life we may be in, God knows us perfectly and always wants to meet us where we are at.” How have you found this to be true in your own life? How was it true for Elijah?
Elijah was a great man of faith. In what ways does he compare and contrast with Jesus? How do you see this story in 1 Kings as a pointer to Jesus?
God met Elijah’s physical needs. What steps might God be calling you to take to live with greater rest and balance in your life?
God met Elijah’s spiritual needs at the end of a 40 day journey. What steps might God be calling you to take to claim the promise from James 4:8, “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you?”
God met Elijah’s relationship needs. What steps might God be calling you to take to get deeper connected in Christ-centered community?
This week pray that God would open your eyes to see the idols you have in your life and that He would help you rid yourself of them so you can be a fully devoted follower of Christ.
From the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, there is one thing that remained constant that we can learn from Elijah today: he was faithful through it all. That is something that, despite our circumstances, we can learn from him today. But to do that, we need help.
To go deeper in your relationship with God and others, here are some next steps for you:
